I always like telling the story that there was just "lighter reddish-yellow" until the fruit was discovered. It was called an orange, and since it looked so much like the color, the moniker stuck.
The more sanguinary origins of pink make for better dinner conversation, however.

I love pink too. I always keep one pink shirt in my dresser for those days when only pink says who you are in color.
