Faction Seven: The Royal Army In Exile (2)

Rifleman with the Duke of Tapika's Household Guard during the ill-fated attack along the causeway, day four. The Battle of Gerst Landing, 963.

Note the distinctive drum magazine on this soldier's Type 214 rifle, almost certainly of Arbuti design from the armory at Wellspring.
The Royal Court bought a good deal of small arms under contract in Arbutus, likely extending their welcome through their business dealings even after the assassinations in 972.

Faction Seven: The Royal Army In Exile

Seven: The Royal Army.

When His Majesty Delvar II fled the Hunchbacks and went into exile you can believe he had every intention of returning, and bringing Kalkovac back under the lazy-eyed stewardship of the Domestice Family.

By planting season of 957 the remnants of the Royal Army, including many rather excellent units, are launching raids from Arbutus and the King begins to entertain whatever diplomatic channels he can open.

Faction Six: The Amalgam Divisions (5)

Depicted- another Volunteer under the Rezik command in the fighting for the mountain passes around Mettia Harbor.

Note the combat shotgun and improvised uniform, both quite typical of these formations.

Faction Six: The Amalgam Divisions (4)

Certainly the soldier's weapon, an advanced fission technology (AFT) rifle, would have been captured on the battlefield from an opposing force with much greater resources than the Amalgam Divisions.

His unusual helmet is of an unknown tribal design and function, and probably denotes the position and responsibility inherent with carrying such a priceless and powerful relic weapon.

Faction Six: The Amalgam Divisions (3)

AD irregular with the Rezik Volunteers.

For centuries the Amalgam have participated in every aspect of Kalkovac society, and the ranks of the AD would include a large number of regimental veterans from off-planet deployment with the 302nd.

Faction Six: The Amalgam Divisions (2)

Faction Six: The Amalgam Divisions

Six: these Divisions were formed from the indigenous population of the Amalgam peoples, a minority sect that has co-existed more or less peacefully on Kalkovac for several millenia.

There have been a long standing list of grievances that remain unaddressed for the Amalgam by their own estimation. Though poorly equipped and self-funded they are apt at civil war and stayed in the conflict through the end.

Even now, some thirteen years after the armistice(s), there are significant units in the Stall Ranges that are holding out and refuse to capitulate.

Faction Five: The Hunchbacks

Five: the Hunchbacks, or Advocates (depending on where you stand).

By the time of the Abdication in 956, the Hunchbacks were openly controlling the main gates in and out of the capitol. They would be central to every phase of the war over the next thirty years, and indeed their presence is still felt to this day.

By 957 one bothered to call them Advocates anymore.

Faction Four: The Publishers and Trade Unionists

And there are other parties and organizations that decide
for various reasons
that they have legitimate reasons to militarize. . .

A Journeyman-Grenadier of Local 91 during the assault on the Limbus Chimney Facility, 958.
Scholars of this phase of the war, the so-called Defiant Negotiations Outcome, wildly disagree the extent to which this phase of the conflict effected the overall outcome.

Faction Three: The Regiment (2)

For more than six centuries it has operated under the charter to raise, train, and equip 19,640 soldiers and form a new Regiment every five years, and then ship them off and never think about them again.

That's the confidence that comes from operating outside of any other authority, anywhere.

Faction Three: The Regiment

Three: the 302nd Wasteland Reconnaissance Regiment. As the planet's main export, it is a political entity with interests to protect and obligations to uphold.

The Regiment mobilizes its reserves and moves to occupy the mustering fields, 957.

Faction Two: The Lesser Nobility

Two: the so-called Lesser Nobility, under the nominal leadership of the Charter-Duke of Ganges.
You cannot have 800 years of feudal structure and Imperial antecedence, after all, without also having 800 years of petty squabbles and aggrieved affluence. There were those on Kalkovac that wished the King gone for their own advantage, and now they came together in a sort of confederacy.

Irregular infantryman with the Eagon Monopoly during the divisive slab-clearing skirmishes in the outskirts of False Positive, 961. The ablative flak armor, pictured, is non-issue, privately sourced gear and almost certainly marks this soldier as a mercenary.

Faction One: The Greater Nobility

One: there is the faction that remained loyal to the way things have been for centuries on Kalkovac, and to the King-in-Exile.

These are the so-called Greater Nobility.

Civil War, continued

The planet basically broke into five main factions, though informally there were at least seventeen others.

Pictured is a Nominal-Sergent aligned to Green Rowl, a Parliamentary interest with mostly loyalist backing. Note the advanced suppressor and scope system on his rifle, indicative of the substantial resources Green Rowl had in the early months of the war.

Date and location of this photo-pic are unsubstantiated.
